Service Description
Your home can be filled with the most beautiful handmade gathered fabric lampshades that look as beautiful when they are switched off as when they are lit, because learning to make them yourself is fun, creative and relaxing. Do you love the look of gathered fabric lampshades but look at the price of them and think "ouch!"? Do you imagine your home with several in every room but breathe a heavy sigh when you add up the cost? Well, here is the ideal solution. Gathered fabric lampshades are cosy, fashionable and stylish. They look gorgeous in both traditional and contemporary settings and are fun and relaxing to make. Join Karen, a professional lampshade maker at this gorgeous countryside venue for a full day of learning. "Uncle Henry's" is the most beautiful setting and has free parking and a gorgeous café serving delicious lunches as well as a beautiful farm shop and garden. Karen will demonstrate all the skills and techniques you need as you follow along whilst she makes a shade with you. She will show you how to bind the frame, fit a classic balloon lining and how to make your own binding trims, so that you can explore endless combinations of patterns and styles. You can bring your own fabric, or select a fabric from a huge selection on the day. If you choose to bring your own, lightweight cottons, such as Indian cotton and cotton lawn, both are ideal. The class is fun, friendly, creative and informal, and you will be taught to the highest professional standard. The class is perfectly suited to you, whether you are new to hand sewing or a professional stitcher. Once you have made your own impressive shade on the day, you will take home your first creation and also the skills to make lots more. You will be provided with a 10 inch frame (we stick to one size so that it can be completed in a day), but if you have a frame already that you'd love to make into your dream shade, do feel free to bring it along so that you can discuss it's future possibilities with Karen. Karen will demonstrate how to make the lining but will bring a handmade lining for each student on the day, in order to save time and avoid the need for queuing at the sewing machine, but you will of course be taught how to make the lining for yourself. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day but please bring a packed lunch, or the café is open serving hot and cold home made, award winning delicious food.
